As an educator, I believe in creating spaces for students to make mistakes, be imperfect, and learn from their peers

I believe in tailoring instruction to each students needs. Working with students to create a specific curriculum ensures that students are growing and achieving the goals that they want to accomplish, while also improving on the flute.
Student-centered teaching includes taking into account the lived experiences of a student. I prioritize the student, taking into account what could help them learn best and create a space that is safe to make mistakes and learn. -
Music is a listening art, and I believe that should be incorporated in all parts of practicing, lessons, and performing. In lessons I’m often singing and have students sing to hear what they’re playing, both for pitch and musicality.

The communal aspect of teaching and playing is just as important as the music is learned. I encourage all students to perform within the community, and actively create opportunities for students to perform!
Carnatic Music
My research focuses on the incorporation of Carnatic music and pedagogy rooted in oral traditions, and how we can incorporate this into Western flute practices. I clinic nationally, providing interactive classes on how to incorporate these aural skills to help with musicality and pitch.
